Baptism: Kenny Pinckney

Kenny grew up in a single-parent home with his mom and sister. They attended a Pentecostal church, but Kenny thought an encounter with God only happened at church.  As he grew up, he became a chameleon and was good at blending in with other people. His search for others to accept him led to his internal struggles. He lived the dream: he was an army veteran, became a police officer, bought a house, got married, bought a dog, and started a family.  But he was empty inside and drowning. One night, he found himself in his car with a gun to his head. Each time Kenny closed his eyes, he saw his daughter’s face. But he didn’t want her to see him like this. He felt numb and was self-destructive. The pandemic happened, and his marriage fell apart.

In the spring of 2023, Kenny’s mom invited him to attend church and stop running from God. He went to church with his guard up. Then the worship team sang the first song, “Worthy”, and he immediately began crying. He asked God to guide him and give him an identity on which to stand.  Later, the pastor who spoke came and told him that God was going to change the direction of his life and draw close to him. That day, he surrendered and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.  His life in Jesus is stable now and anchored. He knows he will be able to handle whatever life brings because of Christ. He is also back with his wife and family.

Kenny is getting baptized to show his family and the world that he is 2nd. He’s not perfect, but God is.  God is the greatest of all time.
