Baptism: Joy Choi

Joy grew up in a Christian home and always believed in God, but her faith was more distant and intellectual—God was a powerful being, not someone she had a personal relationship with.

That changed during a particularly dark season in her life—her third year of medical residency. Accustomed to excelling, she suddenly felt like everything was falling apart. Her family was struggling, and her patients were not improving despite her best efforts. She hit an emotional and spiritual rock bottom, even questioning whether waking up the next day mattered.

During a church small group meeting, she vulnerably shared her struggles. A group member told her to "trust God, the ultimate physician." Initially, she was angry at the suggestion—it felt impractical in the face of real medical decisions. But when the group laid hands on her and prayed, Joy broke down in tears and experienced a supernatural peace that marked a turning point in her faith.

From that moment, Joy began to see that her success was not just the result of hard work—it was God’s grace. Through more challenges since then, she has learned to invite God into her struggles, and He has always met her there. Her faith has become personal, real, and unshakable.

Joy is chose to be baptized to publicly declare that Jesus Christ is her Lord and Savior, and that this truth is the most important part of her life.
