Beyond Stories - Compassion International

Compassion is categorized as a feeling in today’s culture. It’s sympathizing with another’s afflictions and maybe even pitying their situation. However, the Bible defines compassion as an action. It is the extremely humble act of suffering alongside another, an example set by Jesus himself.

According to Compassion International, “the spirit of the word compassion is synonymous with doing. Compassion is not concerned with material or physical things. It's concerned with the human spirit and soul. The spiritual definition of compassion involves acting to alleviate the suffering of others.”

Compassion International is a unique global organization on mission to do just that. Their uniquely holistic development model seeks to release children from poverty by meeting their needs and walking alongside them for life. They are driven by the support of churches and focus on reflecting the compassionate nature of Christ.

Thank You to Those Who Sponsor A Child

Many families at Northridge sponsor children through Compassion in the Central American country of Honduras. This year’s gifts enabled Compassion to aid in updating a local childhood center. The director of the center, Scarlett, expressed immense gratitude for Northridge and wrote,

“It is a great privilege for us because thanks to your contribution, we were able to buy materials to make window bars, a door, and paint to paint the classroom and give it another environment for the children ages 3-5 years of age where they can feel loved, known, and protected”.

Take a moment to pray for our brothers and sisters in Central America who are walking deeply in faith in Jesus while facing the problems that poverty brings. Ask God to strengthen our faith and dependence as a church here in Rochester and Scarlett’s church in Honduras.
